Previous Design Session
Jan 13-14, 2025

The Engraft Design Session held on January 13-14, 2025, at The Summit Hotel in Cincinnati focused on advancing key initiatives within the Engraft network. The session began with a patient and caregiver dinner on January 12, fostering engagement with those directly impacted by bone marrow transplant outcomes. The following morning included a board meeting, where updates were shared, and leadership roles were finalized.

The core discussions on January 13 kicked off with an overview of Engraft’s progress, followed by an analysis of current data on line removal and center-specific progress. Key topics included gaps in survivorship care and chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD), with presentations reviewing guidelines and variations in clinical practices across centers. Participants engaged in a brainstorming session to identify critical intervention areas, which were further developed into structured small-group discussions focused on survivorship and cGVHD. The day concluded with an informal Happy Hour and Engraft Olympics, fostering team cohesion.

On January 14, the session continued with group presentations, where intervention ideas were assessed based on feasibility and impact. After a prioritization session, the group selected cGVHD short-form screening as the key project to move forward with. This initiative aims to establish a standardized, efficient screening tool for chronic graft-versus-host disease, helping ensure earlier detection and more consistent assessments across centers. The afternoon focused on defining the idealized state, key measures, dependencies, and team composition for implementing this screening approach. Concurrently, a patient and caregiver breakout session was held to explore the BMT journey map and education initiatives. The event wrapped up with line removal office hours, providing additional space for in-depth discussion and planning.

This design session set the stage for Engraft’s continued progress, solidifying its focus on survivorship, cGVHD short-form screening implementation, and timely CVC line removal, while integrating patient and caregiver perspectives into its initiatives.
